How to Plan a Trip to Disney World in Florida

Planning a Disney World vacation can begin as far as a year in advance. Allow plenty of planning time so you can shop around for the best deals. A typical Disney vacation package includes a resort room and theme park tickets for every member of your travel party. You can book your vacation online or over the phone. Using the phone allows you to speak directly to a vacation specialist and ask any questions you have about your trip.

Visit the Disney World vacation planning website (disneyworld.disney.go.com) and order a complimentary DVD. Your DVD will come in the mail in about a week and give you an overview of the resorts, restaurants and theme parks at Disney World. Watch the DVD to get an idea of which resort you like the best and what activities you want to include.

Check your work or school calendar to determine the best time for your visit. If you have children in school, decide if you want to remove them from school for the trip or plan the trip for summer vacation.

    • 3

Call the Disney reservations line and speak to a booking agent. You will need to provide the names and ages of every member of your travel group to get an accurate vacation price. Give the reservations person your chosen dates and hotel preference if you have one. You will get a price for the package. Check several different hotels to see if there is a difference in price. When you are happy with the package price, book the vacation. You will need to put one night's room rate down as a deposit, and you can pay the balance of the cost in the months leading up to your trip.

Using your travel dates, make airline or rental car reservations. If you are flying to Disney World, consider using Disney's free on-site transportation system to avoid the cost of a rental car.

Call the dining reservation line to make reservations for popular table service restaurants like Cinderella's Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom and Le Cellier in Epcot. You can call the dining line up to six months in advance to secure your table.
