As the center of the religious world for millions up millions of people, 3000-year-old Jerusalem is without question one of the most historically important cities in the world.     • Chakra offers a wide range of Mediterranean-style dishes influenced by both local recipes and far-reaching international flavors and cooking styles. Located on King George Street in Jerusalem's busy city center, this immensely popular restaurant can often be seen with a long line out the door.     Eucalyptus

    • Chef Moshe Basson has made a name for himself as a regional food archaeologist thanks to to this interesting Jerusalem restaurant. Eucalyptus's rustic, country décor provides the special atmosphere in which to enjoy foods that have stood the test of time, many of which are made from recipes that are thousands of years old. Basson's signature dishes include Jerusalem artichoke soup, lamb served over smoked green wheat, chicken-stuffed figs in tamarind sauce, and ma'aluba, a very traditional baked chicken and rice dish prepared with an array of tongue-tickling spices. Though most dishes contain meat, many are available in vegetarian form so guests should just ask. Sample tasting menus can also be arranged.
