How to Say Common Telephone Communication Phrases in Spanish

Many times when you are traveling in Spain or another Spanish speaking country, you will have to use the telephone. Therefore, it is very important that you include some common telephone phrases in your vocabulary.

Instructions

    • 1

Say, "Adiós" for good-bye and "Hola" for hello.

    • 2

Reply, "Me gustaría llamar con....." This is how you ask to speak to a specific person over the telephone. The answer will probably be "un momento, por favor" which means, "one moment, please" or "no está" which simply means, "he/she is not here."

    • 3

Tell someone a call is coming in for them by using the phrase, "Hay alguien llamando para ti." (There is a call for you.) This is helpful when you answer the phone for someone else.

    • 4

Ask, "¿Dónde está la cabina más cercana?" when you need to find a pay phone booth. Pay phones are located in many places throughout the Spanish speaking world, so this phrase will be useful when asking where the closest phone booth is located.

    • 5

Get change for the pay phone by saying, "Perdón. Necesito cambio para el teléfono." (Excuse me. I need some change for the telephone.) The best place in Spanish speaking countries to get change is at a bank. It may seem rude to ask someone on the street for change for the telephone.
