Bring your guy friend a sample of a local snack or sweet treat from a country you visited. Bring him chocolate from Switzerland, caramel cookie waffles (stroopwafels) from the Netherlands, macaroons from France, chai tea from India or coffee from Spain or Italy. He'll appreciate getting these yummy treats that he can't pick up at the local grocery store, and he might even offer to share them with you.
If your guy friend is a fan of European football, bring him back an official jersey for one of his favorite teams or players. These jerseys can be hard to find in the United States, and he'll appreciate your thoughtfulness. You could also consider getting him his favorite team's pennant or scarf to hang on the wall.
If you're traveling within the United States, bring back memorabilia from a sporting event you attended or a stadium you toured. If you don't know your friend's favorite sport or team, ask one of his friends.
Bring back an interesting pint glass or beer mug for your guy friend. Look for one with a unique coat of arms or other local symbol. Souvenir shot glasses, though clichéd, make good tongue-in-cheek gifts for guys. Look for funny beer cozies as well.
Pick up a T-shirt from a quirky restaurant, museum or concert you went to while traveling. Imitation souvenir shirts have become popular in many clothing stores, but you can bring your friend an authentic shirt with a real story.
If your friend likes music, bring him a CD that represents the local music scene or music history in an area you've recently visited. Bring home a jazz or zydeco CD from New Orleans, an Elvis CD from Memphis, a tango CD from Argentina or an indie or grunge CD from Seattle. Buy a music poster or similar memorabilia to accompany the CD.
