What to Bring to Jamaica

Jamaica is a beautiful island with many natural wanders and even more things to do. When traveling to Jamaica, equipping yourself with the right items can help bring out the best in your trip.
  1. Sun Protection

    • The sun in the Caribbean is intense. Everyone, no matter the skin tone, is at risk of sun damage. Those traveling to Jamaica should plan to have fun in the sun, but your must protect your skin. Sun protection includes sunglasses, hats and sunscreen. Bring those items with you; sunglasses, hats and sunscreen at a resort or tourist shop will be more expensive.

    Cameras

    • Bring an underwater camera. Jamaica offers many snorkeling opportunities, so an underwater camera will capture beautiful underwater scenes.

    Reading Materials and Music

    • Bring a few magazines or a great book to read while passing the time. Bring an Ipod, MP3 or CD player to listen to while sitting by the beach or pool.

    Types of Clothing

    • Pack clothes made of cotton and clothes that fit loosely. These clothes allow airflow, which is critical in a climate that is hot and humid. Light-colored clothes reflect sunlight and helps keep you cool. Depending on where you are staying, some hotels and resorts require dressy attire for certain events. Bring some formal wear in case it is required for one or more nights.

    Toiletries

    • In your check-in luggage, bring your own toiletries, excluding toilet paper. In Jamaica, your hair will go through much stress, so bring shampoo and conditioner that will protect your hair from the sun, salt water and chlorine. Bring the toothpaste you are accustomed to using. Hotels will provide hand and body soaps.
