What Clothing to Take to Hawaii

Hawaii is a popular vacation destination for many singles, couples and families. It is in the United States so there is no need to get passports, exchange money or worry about traveling abroad. However, it is an island with a culture and a climate different from what most people experience at home. Packing the right type of clothing is essential to a good Hawaii trip.
  1. Shirts

    • Most of the days and nights are warm in Hawaii, so take a selection of short-sleeved shirts and tank tops. Light, cotton fabric is best for shirts. Be sure to include several button-down shirts for more fancy restaurants. Bring along at least one long-sleeved cotton shirt in case it rains, and a spring jacket or zippered sweatshirt in case you get chilly.

    Pants, Shorts, Dresses

    • The weather is usually comfortable in Hawaii, and most days it ranges between 70 and 80 degrees. You should only need one pair of long pants for evenings out. Bring shorts or skirts for the rest of the days you will be traveling. Women can also bring two or three sundresses and one longer skirt or dress for a more formal occasion.

    Shoes and Extras

    • Each person should bring a pair of sandals or flip-flops for the beach and casual wear. Also bring a pair of tennis shoes or another comfortable pair of walking shoes and socks to do tourist attractions. Any other shoes you bring depends on what you will be doing during your trip. It rains a warm and gentle rain each day in Hawaii, so bring an umbrella or a rain poncho, and light clothing that will dry easily when it gets wet. Also bring a hat or a head scarf or wrap to keep the hair out of your eyes on windy days, and to protect your face from the sun.
