For Women:
- Women are required to wear a headscarf or headscarf that covers the hair, neck, and chest.
- Loose, long clothing that covers the arms and legs is also required.
- Tight-fitting or revealing clothing is prohibited.
- Women are not allowed to wear bright or flashy colors.
- Makeup and jewelry should be kept minimal.
For Men:
- Men are required to wear long pants and shirts.
- Shorts, tank tops, and other casual clothing are not allowed.
- Men should not wear tight-fitting or revealing clothing.
- Beards are encouraged but not mandatory.
Exceptions:
- Non-Muslim tourists and visitors are not required to adhere to the dress code, but they are encouraged to respect local customs and dress modestly.
- In certain areas, such as the Kish and Qeshm islands, the dress code is more relaxed, and women may be allowed to wear looser headscarves or no headscarves at all.
- In private settings, such as homes and private gatherings, women may dress more freely.
Enforcement:
- The enforcement of the dress code is carried out by the morality police, known as the Gasht-e Ershad.
- Women who violate the dress code may be issued a warning or fined.
- In severe cases, women may be arrested and detained.
