What to Wear on an Alaskan Cruise in June

Alaska is America's 49th state, and one of its most popular destinations. A cruise is a popular way to explore the wonder that is Alaska. A major question in many people's minds is what to wear on a cruise, especially in June.
  1. Alaska Climate

    • The type of clothing in Alaska depends on the climate zone through which your cruise is traveling. It is nearly impossible to say exactly what clothes to bring because routes vary. What may be appropriate in one zone is different for another. What can be fully explained here are the clothes needed for each climate zone. If these areas are on your tour, follow these suggestions.

    Southern Zone

    • During June, the Southern Zone, which includes Anchorage, averages in the 60s during the day. Occasionally, the temperature can reach the 70s. Clothes suitable for this type of weather include jeans, slacks, T-shirts or long-sleeved shirts with a light jacket.

    South Eastern Coastal Zone

    • The South Eastern Coastal Zone is home to the state's capital, Juneau. The climate is very warm during June. Temperatures frequently reach in the upper 80s. The highest recorded temperature for Juneau is 89 degrees Fahrenheit. While some days frequently reach the mid to upper 80s, the next days may max out in the 50s. While in this climate zone, pack a swimsuit, comfortable shorts, T-shirts, hats and sunglasses for warm days. Also include jeans, slacks, long-sleeved shirts and a warm jacket for days were the high is in the 50s. It is hard to predict, but this area is known to have random amounts of heavy rainfall. Make sure to pack an umbrella or raincoat. The South Western Zone of Alaska has nearly identical weather as the South Eastern Zone; however, rainfall is far less frequent.

    North Arctic Zone

    • The North Arctic Zone is one of Alaska's most awe-inspiring sections. Unlike the other climate zones, this zone is frigid nearly all year. Days do reach above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but not by much. For this climate zone, pack your warmest clothes. Bring thick, heavy pants, and long-sleeved shirts that you can easily layer for extra warmth. Lined boots are smart items to bring so your feet can stay warm. A thick winter coat is a necessity. Wool hats and gloves are also important items to pack.

    A Staple Item

    • No matter where you are cruising in Alaska, it is important to bring dressy attire on the cruise. Men should bring at least one suit and women should bring at least one cocktail dress. Pairing the dress with a shawl or wrap provides extra warmth.
