Queensland Police Officer Equipment: Uniform, Belt Gear & Tech

Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers wear a distinctive khaki-and-navy uniform with modern tactical gear. Standard issue (as of 2023–24):

👕 Uniform

• Shirt: Khaki, long-sleeve, epaulettes, embroidered badge/name
• Pants: Navy blue, cargo-style, reinforced knees
• Boots: Brown leather, lace-up, side zip (Magnum / Bates styles)
• Hat: Khaki slouch hat with brown puggaree (hatband) — iconic QPS identifier
• Badge & Rank: Metal breast badge; rank slides on epaulettes
• High-vis vest: Yellow/orange, worn over shirt for traffic/duties

🔫 Duty Belt (Load-Bearing Vest Increasingly Used)

• Firearm: Glock 17/19 (9mm) — ASP (concealed carry holster)
• Taser: Taser 7 (conducted energy weapon) — mandatory for frontline
• OC Spray: Sabre Red / First Defense — cross-draw
• Baton: ASP 21" expandable — friction lock
• Handcuffs: Peerless / Smith & Wesson — double-lock, rigid or chain
• Radio: Motorola APX / TETRA (GRN — Government Radio Network)
• Body Camera: Axon Body 3 — activated per policy
• Flashlight: Streamlight / Pelican — tactical, weapon-mountable
• First Aid: IFAK (tourniquet, gauze, chest seal) — on belt or vest

🎒 Additional Gear (Vehicle / Station)

• Traffic cones, flares, evidence bags, fingerprint kit
• Breathalyzer (Drager), drug test kits (oral fluid)
• Smartphone (QPS-issued) — CAD, intelligence, evidence apps
• Ballistic vest (Level IIIA) — worn under shirt or outer carrier
• Riot gear (helmet, shield, baton) — stored, deployed as needed

🔄 Transition Note

QPS is rolling out load-bearing vests (LBV) to shift weight from belt to shoulders — reducing back injury. Full rollout expected 2025.
