How Delhi Prepared for the 2010 Commonwealth Games (Retrospective)

The XIX Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi from October 3–14, 2010. Preparations were massive:

• Venues: New/upgraded stadiums: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (opening/closing, athletics), Indira Gandhi Sports Complex (aquatics), Yamuna Sports Complex (wrestling, boxing, judo), Talkatora Stadium (badminton, TT, gymnastics).
• Transport: Expanded Delhi Metro, increased bus fleet, improved roads & traffic management.
• Security: Massive deployment of Delhi Police, CRPF, RAF for athlete/visitor safety.
• Accommodation: Coordinated with hotels, guest houses, hostels for visitor surge.
• Infrastructure: Upgraded roads, bridges, power, waste management, city beautification.
• Culture: Parallel festivals showcasing Indian arts, crafts, cuisine.

Despite pre-Games criticism over delays and corruption, the event was successfully executed, leaving a legacy of improved infrastructure.
