What Can I Take When Packing to Fly?

As of 2010, increased airline security makes you question what you are really allowed to pack in your carry-on and checked baggage. The Transportation Security Administration regulates bag screening for the U.S. and provides a list of allowed and prohibited items.
  1. Carry-Ons & Liquids

    • When traveling, you are allowed to have liquids in a limited quantity in your carry-on bag. Each passenger is allowed a one quart size, clear plastic zip-top bag to fill with liquids or gels. Your liquid and gel containers must equal a total quantity of 3.4 ounces or less.

    Exceptions

    • Exceptions to the TSA liquid restrictions include prescription medicine in liquid form in excess of 3.4 ounces. Parents traveling with children may pack baby formula, breast milk, food and juice.

    Checked Baggage

    • Your checked bags undergo multiple screenings before being put on the plane. You may check firearms and weapons, provided that you have a permit and they are not loaded. Highly flammable and explosive items, such as flares, are not allowed in your checked bags.
