Space limitations are a general consideration when taking belongings onto an airplane. The maximum size carry-on bag for most airlines is 45 linear inches (the total of the height, width, and depth of the bag). Airlines have individual policies for the number and size of bags allowed. A general rule is one carry-on and one personal item per person.
The things you can carry on the plane are what most travelers need; clothing, identification, souvenirs, books and papers, toiletries, and screened electronics devices. Small pets in carriers are allowed on some flights with reservations.
Passengers may carry liquids, gels and aerosols in containers that hold 3.4 oz. or fewer and are together in a clear quart-sized plastic bag with a zip top. Carry-ons can hold any item that is not on the TSA banned list.
