All classes on international flights, except first class (which is allowed three bags), are limited to two pieces of luggage in total (including checked and carry-on luggage). For most international destinations, luggage for coach-class passengers must not exceed a combined weight of 70 lbs. (one bag has a 20-lb. maximum, the other a 50-lb. maximum). For flights from the United States, Mexico or San Juan, Puerto Rico, luggage for coach-class passengers must not exceed a maximum combined weight of 100 lbs. (neither bag may exceed 50 lbs.). Flights to the United States and Brazil allow 140 lbs. of luggage per passenger in coach class (neither bag may exceed 70 lbs.). Business-class passengers on all international flights are allowed two bags at a maximum combined weight of 140 lbs. (neither bag may exceed 70 lbs.). First-class passengers on all international flights are allowed a maximum of three bags, not exceeding 70 lbs. each.
If baggage exceeds these restrictions, Copa will charge for carrying the oversized or excess luggage and the item will be transported subject to available space. Should a passenger choose to carry a piece of luggage into the cabin of the plane instead of having it checked, the piece of luggage must meet the following restrictions: one piece of luggage, 46 inches square, 22 lbs. Otherwise, it will be transported in the cargo area.
For all domestic-flight classes, there is no restriction on the number of bags that are included with the price of the ticket. However, a passenger may not bring luggage that exceeds a total weight (checked and carry-on luggage) of 44 lbs. Carry-on luggage may not exceed 11 lbs. each or the items will be placed in the cargo area. There is no weight restriction for a checked bag as long as it does not exceed the total baggage weight. Neither checked nor carry-on luggage may exceed 46 inches square for each bag. Passengers with baggage exceeding these restrictions will be charged for the excess luggage.
For safety reasons, certain items can not be carried in luggage (in-cabin or otherwise), including the following: pepper spray, safes, universal power matches, lighters, MRE flameless heaters, human remains that have not been cremated, blood, tissue samples and compressed gasses. Be aware that bulging and badly damaged luggage is unacceptable as baggage and may be refused entry in the cabin. The passenger might be allowed to have the items stowed away under the airplane in cargo. Although perishable items are allowed inside the cabin as long as they are with 4 pounds of dry ice, note that Styrofoam containers are not acceptable carriers for perishables.
