How to Put a Universal Adapter in Checked Baggage

Universal adapters allow you to use your American electronics in countries where the wattage of power outlets is different. Typically, universal adapters feature one side that accommodates the standard American two prong plug, as well as a series of tines that plug into various foreign outlets. Although airlines restrict the pacakage of certain electronics in checked luggage, adapters are exempt from this policy. Keep your universal adapter stored safely and securely to avoid damaging it during your trip.

Instructions

Wrap the universal adapter using bubble wrap and tape. The prongs on an adapter may bend during your travels, which could result in you having to purchase another one when you get to your destination. If your adapter has a chord, coil it around itself and use a piece of tape to hold it in place. Wrap the adapter two or three times with bubble tape, until all portions are covered. Seal with a piece of clear packing tape to ensure a strong hold.

Place the adapter in a safe compartment of your luggage, such as a zippered pocket full of socks. This will provide extra safety for your adapter as it travels in the cargo hold with your luggage.

Check your baggage at the airport when you check in for your flight. Claim your adapter's value if you purchased insurance for your belongings. This will protect you in the event that your luggage is lost and you must purchase a new universal adapter.
