Use the phrasebook to familiarize yourself with the way that the Russian alphabet looks. There will be transliteration into English letters to give a close pronunciation guide. Don't be dismayed about the difference in alphabets.
Practice saying the Russian words and phrases in the book out loud. The more you speak, the easier it will be for the language to feel more natural. Russian is a beautiful language to listen to. It's rhythms are almost musical.
Listen to the Russian language CD. Hearing a native speaker will help solidify your new vocabulary and strengthen your practice time.
