Can You Add Romania Maps to a TomTom GO 920? No—Here's Why
The TomTom GO 920 (released ~2007) is a legacy PND (Portable Navigation Device) with fixed, pre-loaded maps stored on internal flash memory. It does not support map expansion via SD card, USB, or TomTom HOME/MyDrive Connect for new regions.
Factory Map Coverage (Europe)
The GO 920 shipped with "Europe" maps covering:
- Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Romania is absent. No official map update or add-on was ever released for this model to include Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltics, or the Balkans.
Workarounds (With Caveats)
- Smartphone Navigation: Use Google Maps, Waze, or TomTom GO Mobile app (subscription) on a phone mount—live traffic, current maps, Romania included.
- Dedicated GPS Upgrade: Modern TomTom (GO Discover, GO Expert) or Garmin (DriveSmart) devices cover all of Europe with lifetime updates.
- Paper/Offline Backup: Download offline Google Maps areas for Romania before travel.
Bottom line: The GO 920 hardware and firmware cannot accept new map regions. Retire it for Eastern Europe trips.
