How to Set 4688D TSA-Accepted Combination Padlocks

The 4688D is a United States Transport and Security Administration (TSA) baggage lock that security inspectors can open at the airport without damaging the mechanism. This access feature ensures that your luggage isn't damaged during routine inspections. Once set, you can change the combination at any time using the reset button on the bottom of the lock. It's good to change your combination periodically to ensure your belongings are kept safe.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your existing combination via the dials on the face of the lock. With the lock standing on end, shackle upward, spin the top dial, so the first digit of your code lines up with the white marker. Work downward, entering the second digit on the middle dial and third on the bottom. All three digits should line up with the white marks.

    • 2

Move the end of the shackle not marked "TSA" to the left and pull upward; the shackle should open.

    • 3

Insert a thin, rigid object like the tip of a pen or pencil into the reset button on the bottom of the lock.

    • 4

Holding the pen or pencil in place, spin the dials so they show your new combination code, top to bottom, lined up with the white markers. Release the reset button, once you have entered the combination.

    • 5

Close the lock and scramble the dials -- your new code is ready for use. Repeat the instructions in step 1 to open the lock with your new code.
