Pack for the weather and season. If you are traveling during the winter, you'll need warm clothing and coats. If you're traveling during the summer, bathing suits and lightweight clothing belong in your luggage.
Consider your European plans and accommodations. If your European vacation takes you to a five-star resort and upper-class restaurants and activities, then you need to pack clothing appropriate for dining in your hotel. If your vacation takes you to hostels and inexpensive hotels, your clothing options are much more casual.
Include clothing to sight-see in. European churches and museums expect tourists to dress modestly, which means covering up your shoulders and cleavage. A light cardigan, shawl or sweater will do the trick if you're dressed in a sundress during the warm months. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for sightseeing in Europe.
Remember to pack undergarments that work with all of your clothing. Include long, thermal underwear for winter travel, strapless bras for evening wear, formal wear and sundresses, bathing suit cover-ups for hotel lobbies, and socks and pantyhose appropriate for casual shoes and dress shoes.
Include your toiletries. Many hotels provide shampoo, conditioner and soap but you'll need to pack makeup, deodorant, lotions and other personal care items.
Pack your camera, passport, money, credit cards and other accessories. Hats, sunglasses, scarves, video cameras, batteries and battery chargers are essential when traveling in Europe.
