Put your firearm in the manufacturer's case that came with the gun or purchase a hard sided case that will fit your gun. The firearm must be unloaded before being put in its case to be checked.
Decide whether to put your gun in its case inside your suitcase or checked it in on its own. If you put the case inside a suitcase, the suitcase must be closed with a TSA approved lock before it can be checked, and it must be a hard-sided suitcase.
Put all ammunition into one bag. The ammunition and gun accessories, such as noise suppressors, cannot exceed 11 pounds. The ammunition must be in its original packaging; there can be no loose ammunition.
Declare to the representative at the check-in counter that you have a firearm that you want to check as baggage or that's enclosed inside your suitcase.
