How to Fly, With a Firearm, Following TSA Regulations

Law enforcement officers, as well as citizens with permits, may travel with a gun, by following strict regulations. First and foremost, contact your airline, to assure that they also follow the Transportation Security Administration's Guidelines. Compliance with the following regulations is neccessary in order to transport firearms, firearm parts, and/ or ammunition in checked baggage.

      To fly with a firearm, declare your unloaded firearm to the airline@ the check-in process. It needs to be in a TSA approved hard-sided
      container, which is locked, to prevent access to the gun, other than you, the keyholder.

      A Security Officer will inspect the contents of the case in your presence and lock and return the key to you. A combination lock is also allowed, and you will open this for the security officer. This process is mandatory to fly with a firearm.

      Any ammunition must be packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes, specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition, or may be placed in your locked gun case. To fly with a firearm, your gun cannot be loaded and your ammunition must be secured.
