Ladies Toiletry Bag Instructions

Enhanced security measures require a strategy for organizing and packing toiletry items. Personal items are useful for women to freshen up during or after a flight while waiting for their luggage to arrive. However, carry-on and checked baggage limitations have been reduced and more travelers are checking bags containing personal items in order to facilitate security screening. Toiletry items can be separated into two or three component bags for travel and consolidated at the destination for easy access.
  1. Regulations

    • The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has a list for items that are allowed in carry-on luggage, including guidelines for liquids and gels. Streamline the products for carry-on to only those essentials; pack the rest in your primary toiletry bag in checked luggage. Certain products are generally prohibited (such as aerosol sprays), and loose rechargeable batteries such as spare AA, camera or cell phone batteries are not allowed in checked luggage.

    Carry-on

    • The TSA specifies that the volume of each liquid or gel product should not exceed 3 oz; all products should be packed into 1-quart plastic bag; and each passenger is only allowed one plastic bag of products in her carry-on. The plastic bag containing liquids and gels must be removed from other carry-on luggage to be separately evaluated during security screening.

Determine which toiletry items are essential for freshening up and make sure each product is labeled before placing in the plastic bag.

      These items may include:
      Travel-size tube of toothpaste
Transfer your favorite moisturizer into a plastic travel bottle
Sample-sized pump bottle of hair spray
      Sample size of perfume
Purchase travel-sized facial cleansing products or transfer these into small bottles: liquid cleanser, toner, moisturizer, liquid hand sanitizer
      Cosmetics
Travel-sized body wash, shampoo and conditioner

Pack a small cosmetic bag with other essentials that don't need to be separated: tablet medications, hair brush, toothbrush, makeup pencils, powdered cosmetics, safety razor, cotton swabs and pads, non-metal nail file (emery board) and paper personal hygiene products. Place any loose batteries in a plastic bag and store it in this carry-on for easy access.

    Checked Luggage

    • A larger volume of liquids and gels can be included in checked luggage. To prevent accidental spills inside luggage during handling and transport, consider placing bottles in a plastic bag and wrap a towel around it as a cushion. Consider packing a larger toiletry bag to organize all toiletry items at your destination.

For longer trips, consider packing a larger toiletry bag containing:
      Full-sized toothpaste
Larger volumes of shampoo and conditioner
Hair spray (in a pump bottle)
      Skin products
      Safety razor
      Nail clipper
      Supplemental cosmetics
