For males and females 20 years of age and older, an identification card is needed when applying for a Thai passport. A current driver's license, state ID or current passport will all qualify. For minors 20 years of age and younger, a birth certificate or ID card, marriage registration certificate of the mother and father, ID cards of the mother and father as well as a signed letter of consent from the mother and father are required for application.
If a current Thai passport has expired, it can be easily made valid again through applying for an extension of validity. A current ID card, most recent Thai passport and one two-inch photograph must be present at the time of application. For minors under 20 years old, a birth certificate, marriage registration certificate of the parents, mother and father's ID cards, one two-inch photograph and a letter of written consent signed by both mother and father are needed for application of an extension. An application fee must also be paid.
Within Thailand there are three different Offices of Passport Division where applying for passports and extensions and a number of other passport-related matters are handled. The head office is on Chaeng Wattana Road in Bangkok. Two temporary branches are positioned throughout Bangkok as well, one on the ninth floor of the Central City Shopping Center Bang Na and the other on the eighth floor of the Central Department Store Pinklao.
