How to Make Passport Photos at Home and Print Them at Walmart

If you are obtaining your first passport or just updating a current one, you will need a clear and current photograph for identity purposes. You can save money and hassle by having the photo taken at home with a digital camera and printing it at your local Walmart, which charges a small fee for prints. A passport photo requires some basic guidelines, including your appearance, the background you use and the size of the photo.

Set up an area in your home to take your passport photo. Stand against a white or off-white background wearing clothing you would typically wear. Avoid sunglasses or headgear, such as a hat or visor. Smile naturally without being overly animated; take several shots with a digital camera.

Upload the photos to your computer and choose the best one for the passport photo. Open the photo with your photo editing software and crop it so that just the head, neck and a few inches of your shoulders are showing. Adjust the photo to be clear with accurate coloring for skin, hair and eye coloring. Resize the photo to measure 2-by-2 inches.

Go to Walmart's online photo center, located on its website, and register for an account, if you have not already done so. Log in to your account and upload the edited passport photo to the photo center library.

Click on "Order Prints" located in the upper right-hand corner of Walmart's photo center library. Select the passport photo you have uploaded and choose the size and quantity to be printed. You will be asked to select the store location where you want the photo to be printed and if you want one-hour printing. Your photo will be printed at your local Walmart and ready for you to pick up and use in your passport.
