How to Speed Up a Passport

If you've planned a trip across seas for next week and just realized you haven't obtained a passport, don't panic or cancel that trip just yet. While it usually takes four to six weeks to process an application for a passport, there are a few things you can do to expedite the process and still take that trip you planned.

Instructions

  1. State Department Passport Agencies

    • 1

Visit a passport agency near you. Find one by going to http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/agencies/agencies_913.html and clicking on your state.

    • 2

Call to make an appointment, or if none are available visit the office as soon as you can.

    • 3

Fill out an application for expedited services. Expedited passports generally take two to three weeks to process. Bring your ticket showing your departure date and ask if there is anything they can do to speed up the process.

    • 4

Keep in mind this will cost more. It will cost an additional $60 plus overnight delivery costs on top of regular application fees to expedite the process.

    24 Hour Passport Service

    • 5

Visit www.itseasypassport.com/index.php and click on "New U.S. Passports."

    • 6

Select processing time. 24-48 hour processing costs $249 plus government fees.

    • 7

Fill out applicant and shipping information.

    • 8

Pay with a debit or credit card to complete your order.
