How Can I Get Passports for My Grandparents Who Are Immigrants?

Anyone traveling across the U.S. border must have a valid passport. For U.S. citizens, that means an U.S. passport, which is issued by the state department. Passports are issued to all U.S. citizens with very few restrictions. For citizens of other countries resident in the United States, such as green card holders who have arrived as relatives of a U.S. citizen or green card holder, a valid passport from the country of citizenship is a legal requirement. The laws of the country of citizenship apply, and these may vary considerably.
