How to Get a Passport for India

Citizens of India wishing to travel internationally must first be issued an Indian passport. A passport makes visiting other countries possible by identifying its carrier to foreign authorities. It is also the legal document that grants re-entry into India. As of April 2008, Indian passports can conveniently be applied for using an online application process. The option to mail the application makes it possible to obtain a passport without an appearance at a Consulate Office of India.
