Visit the consulate office of the Austrian Embassy nearest you (see Resources) and request a passport application if you wish to apply in person. Otherwise, download the application from the Embassy of Austria website (see Resources) to process your application by mail.
Prepare to submit an original birth certificate and a marriage certificate if applicable.
Provide proof of your Austrian nationality by presenting the Staatsbuergerschaftsnachweis document. If you do not have one, it can be applied for at the Embassy. You may be asked to present a Certificate of Naturalization as well.
Submit one of the following documents as another form of ID: permanent resident card, certificate of residence, or a U.S. visa along with Form I-94 if you are applying at an Austrian Consulate in the United States.
Return your completed application, proof of citizenship and applicable fees to the Austrian Consular or mail your documents to the address on the application form. Pay the newly issued passport fee of U.S. $100.50 (euro 70) with a consular service charge of U.S. $35.90 (euro 25) in cash or money order. Personal checks or credit cards will not be accepted. The average processing time for new passports is 2 weeks.
