- Introduced a system of responsible government in provinces, as ministers had to be collectively responsible to the provincial legislatures.
3. Provincial Autonomy:
- Provided a degree of autonomy to the provinces by giving them their own legislatures and powers to make laws on a range of subjects.
4. Expansion of Legislative Councils:
- Expanded the central and provincial legislative councils and introduced a system of direct elections, albeit with a limited franchise.
5. Establishment of Public Service Commissions:
- Established Public Service Commissions to ensure impartial recruitment to civil services.
6. Protection of Minorities:
- Included safeguards for religious and ethnic minorities, including ensuring their representation in legislatures.
7. Simon Commission:
- Led to the appointment of the Simon Commission to assess further constitutional reforms, which eventually resulted in the Government of India Act of 1935.
8. Beginning of Representative Government:
- It helped pave the way for the further expansion of representative government and the eventual transition to complete independence for India.
