A valid, signed passport with at least one blank visa page is required to obtain a visa to visit Canada. This is required for every family member who is applying for a visa. If your passport is set to expire soon, you should get a new passport before applying.
Complete and sign all application forms, which can be found online (see Resources). Take the necessary time to fill out each form as accurately as possible.
Each applicant must submit two recent passport photos. The photos must be taken professionally through a passport photo service to ensure proper size, orientation and alignment.
You must be able to provide proof that you have enough money for your stay. The amount of money varies case by case. If you plan to stay with friends and family, then you will not need as much money as someone who plans to stay in a hotel.
You need to pay the visa application fee when you submit your application. This fee is non-refundable, even if your application is denied. The current cost is $75 for one person for a single entry visa, $150 for one person for a multi-entry visa, and $400 for a family visa (single or multi-entry).
Additional documentation, such as proof of employment, an ID card, airline itinerary, a letter of invitation from a Canadian citizen, or a proposed travel itinerary, is sometimes required. The Canadian visa center will let you know if you are required to submit additional documentation. You might also be required to complete and submit results from a medical examination. You will be notified if this is required for you.
