Canadian Visa Requirements for Cambodia

Cambodian citizens planning to visit Canada need visas. Visa applications are processed in Bangkok, Thailand, and you may have to wait as long as a month to get one. It can take even longer if you are called up for an interview, so plan ahead. All the forms you need are provided on-line by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), the government agency that handles visas. Paper forms are available from Canada's embassy in Phnom Penh.
  1. Eligibility

    • Flag of Canada

To visit Canada from Cambodia, you must have a valid passport for foreign travel and obtain a Temporary Resident Visa.
You are required to undergo a medical examination if you are planning to stay in Canada longer than six months. You may be asked to undergo a medical exam even if your stay is shorter. The Canadian embassy provides special forms for these medical exams.
In order to grant you a visa, Canadian immigration officers want make sure you have sufficient ties (job, home and family) in Cambodia so that you return once your visit is over. They also want to know if you have enough money for your stay. The exact amount depends on how long and where you stay (hotel, friends, family).
You may be asked to provide a letter of invitation from Canada. It's a good idea to have an invitation before you apply for a visa. Review eligibility criteria on the Canadian embassy in Bangkok website, which provides detailed instructions and all necessary forms.

    Application Forms

    • Flag of the Kingdom of Cambodia

Visa application forms for temporary visitors are available for download from the CIC website. You can also pick up paper application forms from the embassy in Phnom Penh:

      (Former St. 254) Sangkat Chaktomuk
      Khan Daun Penh
      Phnom Penh, Cambodia
      Tel: (855) 23-213-470, ext. 426
Canada has two official languages, so all forms are available in English and French.

    Additional Documents

    • In addition to your visa application form and passport, you submit two photographs taken in the last six months that conform to a very specific format (provided below). The embassy in Thailand also requires you submit proof of funds, such as a bank statement and proof of employment, such as a letter from your employer. Include a letter of invitation if you have one. A complete list of additional documents is provided on the embassy website.

    Payment

    • You must submit payment together with your application. Processing costs $75 Canadian dollars for a single entry visa ($150 for multiple entry visas, $400 for families). The fee is not refundable. Only certified checks or bank drafts payable to "The Embassy of Canada" are accepted in Baht, Canadian or U.S. dollars. Personal checks or cash are not accepted.

    Mailing and waiting

    • Double check all your documents before sending them and payment to the embassy in Bangkok:
      The Canadian Embassy
      Immigration Section
      P.O. Box 2090
      Silom Road
      Bangkok 10501
      Thailand
Sign and date the forms prior to mailing. The CIC indicates that the Bangkok embassy processes over 95 percent of visa applications in under one month. You may be called to Bangkok for an interview. Canadian embassies cannot help if you need a visa to enter Thailand. That is your responsibility. After processing, your passport will be mailed back to the Phnom Penh embassy .
