In order to travel to Canada you must have a valid travel document. For most people this will be a valid passport that is issued by the Mexican government. It must have at least one blank page inside of it for the appropriate stamps and stickers for the visa. The passport must also be valid for at least six months after your intended date of departure for Canada.
You must be in good health before you can travel to Canada. This is to control the spread of contagious diseases within the country. For transit visas you will not be required to go through a health check, however at the Canadian port of entry, if you appear sick the Canadian immigration officer has the right to detain you, put you through a physical examination, and even quarantine you if they see fit.
The application package will require you to complete the application, collect all required documentation, and pay the visa fees before your submit the visa application.
The Canadian government encourages that you file the visa application with VAC services. This is an agency that will review the application paperwork to make sure it is completed and all necessary documentation has been submitted. VAC services will file the documents with the Canadian government. You can also file the visa application with the Canadian embassy in Mexico City. You will not be able to file the visa paperwork with the any of the consulates; you can only submit the application with the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City.
You will have to prove to the immigration officer that you intend on leaving Canada and you plan on returning home. This may be shown by proving that you have enough ties at home that you will return there. At this point in time you will also have to show the immigration officer that you have a ticket out of the country and you will be in Canada only in transit. You will also have to show the immigration officer that all visas that may be required to enter the destination country after Canada have been approved.
You must have a sufficient amount of money during your stay in Canada. Even though you will be in transit and only in the country for a couple of days you will have to satisfy this requirement.
The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) reserves the right to deny or hold a visa contingent on additional documentation or information. If the CIC requests additional documentation, you are required to submit it before you can receive your transit visa.
