Information About Visas for Visiting Australia

Australia is a land of wonder from its beautiful coastline, exotic wildlife and unusual flora. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant life of large cities as well as rural life on a sheep farm. All visitors to Australia must have the proper visa as well as a valid passport.
  1. Electronic Tourist Visa

    • ETA Visas (Sub Class 976) are electronically attached to the passport number, not as a stamp on the passport. The visa is valid for three months, and the traveler can apply online, through a travel agency or airline.

    Regular Tourist Visa

    • A Tourist Visa (Sub Class 676) is a normal visa valid for three months, six months or one year depending upon the purpose of your visit. It allows visitors to tour, visit family or study (study period must be less than three months).

    Family Visit Visa

    • A Sponsored Family Visitor Visa (Sub Class 679) is provided to travelers who have family living in Australia or an Australian Government willing to sponsor them. The visa is valid for up to twelve months and the sponsor must guarantee that the traveler will leave Australia when the visa expires. Visitors holding this visa are allowed to tour, visit family, or study for up to three months, but can not be used to seek medical treatment.

Working Holiday Visa (Sub Class 462)

    • This visa allows travelers 18 to 30 years old to supplement the cost of the trip by temporary work while in Australia. The visa is valid for a twelve month period and allows up to four months of study.

    Extending the Visit

    • Travelers intending to stay in Australia beyond the valid date of their visa must apply for another visa or be considered an "unlawful non-citizen" and subject to arrest. To legally extend the stay apply for a new visa a minimum of two weeks before the original expiration date.
