Aerobed Bed Basics

When it comes to sleeping options for traveling, camping or staying in a guestroom, many of the products available can be cumbersome or uncomfortable. More and more people are opting for an Aerobed bed, an inflatable air mattress, for their needs at home or away.
  1. Types of Aerobed Beds

    • Aerobed is possibly the most popular brand of air mattress. An air mattress is a bed that is inflated with air and can be collapsed, rolled up and stored easily. Aerobed makes a variety of air mattresses for different uses. Mattresses designed for travel are lower to the ground, about the thickness of a regular mattress, and are therefore more compact and easier to carry. The type designed for home use comes in sizes up to queen and are about the height of a regular bed. For camping, mattresses with battery-powered pumps are available.

    Features

    • Aerobed air mattresses are made from poly-vinyl chloride, or PVC, a durable vinyl material that can be used repeatedly without rupturing. An Aerobed bed's electronically welded construction adds to its durability. The material is stain-proof and can be easily cleaned. Newer Aerobed beds come with an on-board air pump that inflates the mattress with the push of a button. Some pumps can also deflate the mattress, although many mattresses simply have a valve you can open to let the air out. Though it became less common with the advent of an electronic pump, some air mattresses have a manually operated air pump. Prices for Aerobed beds vary depending on the size and features of a mattress. A kid-size mattress is the cheapest. Queen-size Aerobed beds and convertible sofa beds are a bit more expensive. Relative to the cost of a regular bed, Aerobed beds are far less expensive, especially when considering all the components of a traditional bed. There is no need for box springs or bed frames for an Aerobed product.

    Comfort

    • Anyone who has slept on an Aerobed bed can tell you that they are pretty comfortable. The firmness can easily be adjusted by adding or lessening the amount of air in the mattress. They are designed to provide support comparable to a regular bed. Most people agree that they are a better option when compared with fold-up futons or other temporary bedding.
