Problems With Travelpro SkyPro Lite

SkyPro Lite is a discontinued two-piece luggage set made by Travelpro International, a Florida-based manufacturer of suitcases and travel bags. Although no longer in production, the item was commercially available in the United States from around 2003 until 2007. The SkyPro Lite set includes a 25-inch "Spinner" upright suitcase -- with 360-degree rotating wheels -- and a matching shoulder tote. Both bags are constructed out of durable ballistic nylon fabric.
  1. Carry-On Luggage Restrictions on Domestic and International Flights

    • A 25-inch bag is too large as a carry-on luggage item on most airlines. Even a 22-inch bag, while still suitable for domestic travelers, is too bulky for those who fly internationally. If you travel on international flights, you may need a 20-inch bag, because many international airlines now require a smaller maximum size for carry-on luggage. For example, if you are flying on Air France or Lufthansa, you can take only a 20-inch carry-on piece of luggage. With these restrictions in mind, you may want to upgrade to the Travelpro Walkabout Lite -- a lightweight 20-inch bag that is currently available in the Spinner model.

    Damage and Defects

    • While Travelpro luggage is highly regarded in the travel industry -- not only among business and leisure travelers but also flight crews -- damage and defects are inevitable. Owners of SkyPro Lite have cited mechanical problems on review sites and in discussion forums. These problems include broken zippers, handles and wheels. Many of these malfunctions occurred with heavy use; although, in some cases, they occurred with only normal or light use.

    Repair Issues

    • To ensure the correct replacement of parts, you must use an authorized Travelpro repair location to fix SkyPro Lite luggage. Once you find a repair facility, call to ask if they can solve the problem. (For example, not all Travelpro dealers will repair zippers.) If you cannot locate a repair facility, you will need to contact Travelpro and ask them to fix your bag at their headquarters. SkyPro Lite bags are no longer covered under the manufacturer's warranty. You will be responsible for the cost of parts and labor on repairs. In addition, Travelpro does not provide reimbursement for shipping costs to their headquarters. Turnaround times will depend on the type of repair. Typically, Travelpro will repair and return luggage within two to four weeks.

    Replacement Problems

    • Unfortunately, the SkyPro Lite series is now discontinued. If you want to replace your SkyPro Lite bag, it is likely that you'll be forced to choose from a newer product line. Most retailers do not have any SkyPro Lite inventory remaining. However, if you contact the Travelpro customer service department, a representative may be able to help you locate a retailer.
