CAFOD's Work in Brazil: Fighting Poverty and Injustice

CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) partners with local Brazilian organizations to address root causes of poverty. Key program areas:

• Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture: Agroecology, smallholder support, seed banks.
• Land Rights: Indigenous and quilombola territorial defense, legal advocacy.
• Education: Access for marginalized youth, intercultural bilingual schools.
• Gender Equality: Women's leadership, combating violence, economic empowerment.
• Health & Sanitation: Community health workers, clean water, COVID-19 response.
• Environmental Protection: Amazon defense, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods.

CAFOD also advocates nationally/internationally for policies that reduce inequality. Its approach is rights-based, participatory, and long-term.
