What process of a desert such as the Gobi to continue growing?

Desertification is the process by which desert-like conditions occur in areas that were not previously considered deserts. While the immediate causes of desertification vary, the end result is always a loss of vegetation, topsoil and productivity, and an increase in the amount of sand in the soil, causing the land to become desert-like. Climate change, deforestation and overgrazing are the main causes of desertification.

However, in the case of the Gobi Desert, it's important to note that it's not actively expanding or growing. The boundaries of the Gobi Desert have remained relatively stable over time. The climatic conditions and geographic features that define the Gobi Desert, such as its location in the rain shadow of the Himalayas and the Taklamakan Desert, as well as its distance from major water bodies, have historically determined its size and extent.

Desertification is a serious problem affecting several regions around the world, but it is not the primary factor responsible for the current state of the Gobi Desert.
