Places to Vacation With a Two Year Old

With the demands that work and family place on your life, it's important to get away once in a while and decompress. However, if you have a young two-year-old child, you have to make sure that your destination can accommodate your needs. Several vacation ideas will provide excitement and relaxation for your entire family.
  1. Club Med Sandpiper

    • Located on the St. Lucie River in east Florida, Club Med Sandpiper is an all-inclusive resort that caters to virtually every age category. Parents and older children can enjoy the various amenities that the hotel has to offer, such as the golf course, tennis courts, outdoor pool area and flying trapeze adventure. At Baby Club Med, children four months and older are supervised by adults from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., six days a week. The day's schedule is broken up into meals, naps and outdoor games. Parents can come and go as they please and take their child to dinner at the Baby Restaurant, which serves meals specifically prepared with nutritional needs in mind.

    Yellowstone National Park

    • Located in Wyoming and parts of Idaho and Montana, Yellowstone National Park has a number of activities for your two-year-old to enjoy. Take a sightseeing drive of Firehole Canyon and take pictures at the waterfalls or geysers. Your child may actually be soothed to sleep on the drive and can take in the wonder of the rushing falls. Another activity for toddlers is the wildlife watching tour. Led by a ranger, your group is taken to strategic locations where you can view elk, bison, coyotes and even grizzly bears. For lodging, you can camp in Canyon Village, where you will have access to pay showers and laundry facilities. If you don't want to rough it outdoors, you can stay in the Roosevelt Lodge Cabins that feature private bathrooms and wood stoves.

    Disneyland

    • With lots of fun characters and shows to see, Disneyland is a great place to stimulate your two-year old's creative energy. Take your own stroller and pack it with necessary items for your child, then walk around and let them visit with Micky Mouse, Donald Duck and the rest of the Disney crew. Take them to Toontown where they can run around and play on the slides. Your two-year-old might also like several rides, including "It's a Small World," where they can relax in the boat and listen to the characters sing. If the adults in your group want to ride a bigger attraction, you can have one person stay behind with the child. Then when the majority of your party is done, tell a cast member and the extra person will be able to jump to the front of the line with someone else. For lodging, you can stay at one of the on-site resorts or save money at a nearby hotel, several of which offer packages with tickets.
