Canada's Rocky Mountains are breathtaking any time of year, but in June the wildflowers are just beginning to bloom. Hotels, tours and other seasonal businesses are open, the weather is mild and the days are long. The mountains are also a good choice for a romantic June vacation since schools don't let out until later in the month.
California wine country is beautiful in June-the grapes are starting to mature and the landscape is lush with green climbing vines and gnarled oaks. The rainy season is over and the temperatures are warm during the day and cool at night. Napa Valley and Sonoma County are always popular destinations for wine enthusiasts, but don't forget Temecula and Paso Robles either.
June 21 is the northern hemisphere's longest day and marks the beginning of summer. Many places have celebrated the Summer Solstice for thousands of years, but Midsummer's Eve is extremely popular in Scandinavia-it's even a national holiday in Finland. Summers are short lived in the region and the season is marked with festivities from parades to bonfires as flowers burst into bloom.
