How to Plan a Recreational Event

Taking part in a recreational event -- attending a sporting event, going camping or learning a new dance -- can bring people together from your neighborhood, office or a whole city. Careful planning of a recreational event takes time but is worth the effort. When the planning is done right, minor glitches can be dealt with, making the event go smoothly.

Instructions

    • 1

Form an event planning committee unless the event lends itself to planning by one person.

    • 2

Decide on what kind of recreational activity the event will have. If the event is a fundraiser, determine how funds will be raised.

    • 3

Decide on a date and venue. This should be done as early as possible. If the event is going to attract a large number of people, make sure it does not fall on some religious holiday. If the event is being held during the rainy season, the venue should be indoors or provide some cover.

    • 4

Seek sponsors for the event. This will help ease the budget expenditure. If there is to be a guest speaker or celebrity, confirm that they will be able to attend the event and arrange for a substitute if they cancel.

    • 5

Assign jobs to everyone on the committee. Draw a time line showing the deadline for each person's tasks.

    • 6

Determine what type of equipment and material will be necessary for the event. You might want printed T-shirts or props for the event. Decide details regarding food, music and decorations.
