The Westerville Music and Arts Festival is an annual summer event that features performing artists from all over the country. A tradition that began in 1973, the Westerville Music and Arts Festival is held every second weekend of July at Heritage Park on Cleveland Avenue. Join the festivities and view artwork of local artists, make arts and crafts or sample local food offerings. The festival features demonstrations and exhibitions of Colonial and American crafts complemented with costumed Heritage craftspeople. Learn about crafts such as iron work, cane carving, woodworking, knitting, basket-weaving, enamel painting, wool spinning and doll making.
Take the family for an educational art exhibition at the Otterbein University's Frank Museum of Art. The museum houses art pieces from Japan, Africa and New Guinea. Located on South Vine Street in Westerville, the museum spans just 1,800 square feet, making it a small and intimate venue for guests. View 19th-century Japanese woodcut prints, African textiles, and sculpture and pottery from Africa and New Guinea. Aside from the exhibits, guests can also attend recitals, lectures and special educational programs at the museum.
Nestled within 121 acres of nature preserve, the Inniswood Metro Gardens feature scenic woodlands and streams teeming with flora and wildlife. Inniswood Metro Gardens is located on S. Hempstead Road where visitors can walk through colorful landscaped flowerbeds and rock gardens. The gardens have more than 2,000 species of plants with theme gardens of herb, rose and woodland rock. Attend some of Inniswood's events, including Children's Garden Day in mid-April where crafts and activities are available for the entire family.
The city of Westerville hosts annual family holiday events including the tree lighting ceremony in December and various Halloween parties in October. Get into the holiday spirit by attending the tree lighting ceremony at the Municipal Building on S. State Street. Families can enjoy live holiday music, a candle lighting ceremony and food offerings. The Westerville Parks and Recreation Department sponsors numerous Halloween events throughout the month of October. Attend spooky events like the Halloween Harvest Dance, haunted trails and the recreation Halloween dance.
