While technically a bed and breakfast, the Chateau on the Bayou not only offers the same simple accommodations as most motels in the area, it is the only lodging within the official town limits of Raceland. The inn consists of an old country home with five basic bedrooms for guests. Although these are all equipped with full to queen-sized beds and televisions, a few require the use of a shared bathroom. All guests are welcome to a free continental breakfast as well as use of laundry facilities. The Chateau is literally outside one of the many bayou waterways, which can be enjoyed from the picnic and hammock area located on the property.
About 15 miles down the road from Raceland is the Louisiana town of Thibodaux, which is where the Economy Inn can be found. This establishment has more of the appearance of a commune or campsite than the average roadside motel, but still provides low-budget lodging options along with local flare. The property is made up of a series of cottages shaded by swampy willow trees, while inside are standard-sized guest rooms with the usual amenities, such as Wi-Fi, cable television and mini-fridge. The surrounding area of Thibodaux provides guests with several authentic bayou eateries as well as the charm of the town's historic downtown.
Best Western is an economy lodging chain that can be found all over the country. The nearest location to the town of Raceland can be found in Houma, Louisiana, about 12 miles to the west on Route 90. Houma is home to one of the two airports in the region as well as to the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge. The Best Western Houma provides typical overnight accommodations with standard guest rooms, but also includes a couple of honeymoon suites for those who wish to spend their post-wedding days deep in the bayou. The lodging is only a few miles down the road from authentic Cajun swamp tours.
The Days Inn, like Best Western, is another chain of economy roadside lodgings. One of their locations is in the town of Houma, down the road from Raceland. The rooms available range from singles with one king-sized bed to doubles with two queens. The complimentary perks of staying at the Days Inn Houma include wireless Internet, continental breakfast and access to the outdoor pool in the summer. While the motel features a number of business traveler conveniences, such as access to the on-site meeting rooms and business center, the abundance of nearby fishing and hunting activities are a major draw to the area.
