The closest lodging of any kind to the Roxbury section of town is the Fort Hill Inn, located just a few blocks from the Roxbury Crossing subway stop. Considering the urban location, the inn is not the typical roadside motel, although it does offer a variety of affordable accommodations. The rooms inside the old Boston brownstone vary from private rooms, in which up to two people are allowed to stay, to apartments, which include a kitchen and living area and fit up to four people. Compared with most Boston hotels, the rates at the Fort Hill Inn are much lower. As of 2011, a room at the inn can run as low as $60 a night.
Howard Johnsons can be found all over the country, usually as an alternative to more expensive accommodations in the same area. This can certainly be said of the Boston location, which is just north of Roxbury on the opposite side of the famous Boston Back Bay Fens park. Fenway Park, the Charles River and the Boston Symphony Orchestra are all less than a mile from the lodging, which includes dozens of basic rooms with wireless Internet and complimentary toiletries. While the hotel has its own Hong Kong Cafe, numerous other dining options are within the Back Bay neighborhood.
The Best Western is known for providing economy accommodations in cities and roadsides throughout the country. This location in particular is known as the Roundhouse Suites and is the only Best Western in the city of Boston. In the heart of south Boston, the lodging is on the eastern edge of Lower Roxbury, just across the street from the Boston Medical Center. What sets it apart from other low-budget economy lodging options in the city is the ample amount of suites available, all of which have separate living and work spaces. Children under 17 are allowed to stay with their parents for free, and each accommodation includes a pull-out-bed sofa.
The Longwood Inn can be found in the neighborhood of Brookline, which lies adjacent to Roxbury on the western outskirts of the city. The area is about as residential as Boston gets. This is apparent in the Longwood Inn building, which is a large house that dates back to the early part of the 20th century. With fewer than 10 rooms in the lodging, accommodations range from single rooms to a full-sized apartment. All rooms have the bare essentials, as well as the feel of an old home. The Longwood Inn doesn't look the part of the typical motel, but the rates, which as of 2011 are as low as $80 a room, are certainly economical in Boston.
