Lawry's The Prime Rib is located just off Chicago's Magnificent Mile in what once was the McCormick Mansion and the Kungsholm light opera theater. Lawry's opened in that location in 1974 with the intent of keeping the grandeur of the mansion's former tenants. As the name suggests, Lawry's is known for its prime rib dinner, which includes your choice of the size cut of beef you would like, salad, Yorkshire pudding and whipped cream horseradish. The restaurant also serves a meal of prime rib and lobster. The restaurant recommends reservations and has a dress code, so no tank tops, torn jeans or gym wear.
Morton's Steakhouse on North State Street is in the city's Gold Coast area. This Morton's is the original restaurant, and more than 75 have opened nationwide since its inception in 1978. The State Street restaurant is located in the basement of its building, giving it a grotto-like feel. Consistently named one of Chicago's favorite restaurants, Morton's is known for its steak, but it also serves a handful of chicken and seafood dishes for those who don't eat red meat.
Gibsons is also located in Chicago's Gold Coast, near the intersection of Rush and Division Streets. Gibsons prides itself on remembering its "locals," or regulars, and tries to give its patrons a meal worth coming back for. The restaurant has been in its location for more than 20 years, in a building that housed Mr. Kelleys, where Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand once performed. Gibsons touts its steak as one of its most-ordered dishes, but it also has fresh fish daily, as well as chops and lobster tails. If you're looking for wine to pair with your meal, your server will be able to help you match your tastes.
