John F. Kennedy International Airport is in Jamaica, New York in Queens County, approximately 15 miles from Manhattan. JFK International covers 4,930 acres of ground and more than 40 million passengers pass through the airport year year. Having a layover or passing time during flight delays does not mean having to settle for a sub-par meal while at JFK; the airport features numerous dining and drinking options, including steakhouses and Italian restaurants established by celebrity chefs and upscale bars known for their wine lists.

    • AeroNuova is in Terminal Five at JFK International Airport, after the security checkpoint in the marketplace area. Specializing in Italian cuisine, the restaurant is the result of designs by celebrity chef Mark Ladner who created it for JetBlue, which operates Terminal Five. Breakfast selections include the panini breakfast sandwich, which contains sliced speck and cantaloupe. The menu has more than 25 appetizers and salads, such as the baccala poached salt cod or the ceci tuscan chickpeas with pecorino cheese. A featured entree is the beef ravioli, accompanied by a Gorgonzola cheese fondue. The restaurant has a full bar. AeroNuova is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Todd English's Bonfire Steakhouse

    • Celebrity chef and restaurateur Todd English created Bonfire Steakhouse, which is in Terminal Two at JFK International Airport, directly across from Gate 21. Six appetizers lead the menu, such as the house specialty nachos, topped with a blend of cheeses, black beans and shredded chicken. Steaks include an 8-oz. fillet mignon and a 16-oz. dry-aged rib eye. Diners can opt to top their steaks with Gorgonzola, brown butter Bearnaise, sweet mushroom ragu or a lobster tail. Steaks are a la carte with side dishes like sweet potato fries and creamed spinach available. The Bonfire Steakhouse serves dinner nightly. Next door to the restaurant, across from Gates 23 and 24, is the Bonfire Bar, which specializes in cocktails like the agave margarita.

    Vino Volo

    • Vino Volo is an upscale wine bar located in Terminal Eight in the food court in Concourse B. The bar plays recorded jazz music and offers an extensive selection of red and white wines from around the world. All of the wines are available by the glass, and the bar features flights that allow tasters to sample a sequence of wines around a given theme, such as chardonnays or vintages from a particular region. The bar also serves tapas, such as duck confit and lentil salad. Vino Volo operates from lunchtime through the early evenings daily.
