Things to Do in Indian Shores, Florida

Indian Shores is a small town situated along the Gulf Coast of Florida. It features 2.65 miles of beaches, and is home to about 1,500 residents. While Indian Shores is a small town, it has a variety of things to do. People can visit the nation's largest nonprofit wild bird hospital, play a round of miniature golf or participate in recreational activities at the Indian Shores Town Hall.
  1. Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary

    • The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is the largest nonprofit wild bird hospital in the United States. According to the sanctuary's website, the hospital admits 23 to 30 wild birds hospital every day, which equates to about 10,000 wild birds every year. The center treated, rehabilitates and released back in the wild about 80 percent of them. The sanctuary also is a permanent home to several species of birds that are unfit to return to the wild. More than 100,000 people visit the sanctuary grounds every year. Visitors can learn how the sanctuary operates and take photographs of the different birds. The sanctuary is open daily. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

    Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf

    • Voted best mini-golf by Florida Monthly Magazine Readers, Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf is a popular family-friendly activity in Indian Shores, featuring an 18-hole miniature golf course. Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf also houses a live alligator exhibit in the middle of the golf course. According to the Smugglers Adventure Golf website, visitors can feed the alligators using old-fashioned bamboo fishing poles. As of 2010, one round of golf cost $10.49 to $11.49, and visitors could play a second round for $1.99.

    Town of Indian Shores Town Hall

    • Indian Shores' Town Hall offers a variety of ongoing recreational programs. All programs are "pay as you go," so visitors can simply show up for a class and do not have to worry about registering ahead of time. Every Monday and Wednesday, the Town Hall offers a Zumba class, which is an aerobic workout combined with Latin music. Yoga classes are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Visitors also can take tae kwon do classes every Wednesday night, taught by an experience black belt instructor. For those who want to learn how to dance, Indian Shores' Town Hall offers ballroom dance lessons every Wednesday night. According to the Town of Indian Shores website, instructors teach a new dance every month.
