A cootie catcher is a classic game that will keep girls entertained for hours. Start with a square piece of paper. Fold the paper into triangle quarters and then unfold. Fold down each corner into the middle of the paper. Flip the paper and fold those four corners into the middle as well. Write a number, 1 through 8, on each corner of the paper. Lift up each flap and write a fortune. Turn the paper over and put a color on each corner. Slip your fingers into the folds of the paper and play away. Choose a color and a number to find your fortune.
MASH is a fun game that girls have played to occupy time for many years. The initials stand for "Mansion," "Apartment," "Shack" and "House," signifying where the girl will live in the future. This game is played to help girls determine what their possible futures will look like in a fun and silly way. The girls each come up with three to five different choices for each area of: boys, cars, careers, number of children, locations and colors. Each category should have the same number of choices. One girl starts to draw a spiral and stops when the other girl tells her to. They count the number of lines in the spiral and that is how the choices are determined. Starting with the M in MASH, items are counted and crossed off using the spiral number until there is only one choice left in each column. The choices that are left will be that girl's future. For example, if the number of lines in the spiral was three, then every third choice would be crossed off.
A scavenger game is a fun way to make any journey a little more interesting. Come up with a list of objects to find during the journey. These could be landmarks, items, license plates or any number of other things. Have the girls take pictures of the objects once they find them. The first person to reach the end of the list wins.
Choose four words to use for each poem from billboards or road signs. Allow the girls to create four-line poems using the words from the signs. Vote on the best poems once the girls get tired of writing.
