How to Make an Itinerary Plan

A disorganized vacation can be a disaster. Whether you are splurging on a family trip to Disney World or are going skiing in the Alps alone, plotting out the details of your itinerary beforehand can save you unnecessary stress. Although you do not have to account for every moment of your time, you may want to include flight and hotel information as well as time-sensitive activities. Preparing for your vacation on paper will allow for a worry-free getaway.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Word or Excel document on your computer, or you can write out your itinerary by hand if you prefer.

    • 2

Write the destination of your trip at the top of the page, along with the date of departure and return.

    • 3

Start by including your departing flight information such as the airport you are flying out of and the time of departure and arrival in your destination.

    • 4

Begin each section of your itinerary with a day of the week, date and time, for example "Wednesday June 3rd- Morning: Breakfast @ hotel, 10:45: Meet group for canoe tour, 6-ish: dinner @ Mel's." If you are going on a leisurely vacation your times can be approximate, whereas if you are traveling for business your times will need to be exact. If you do not want your vacation to be too structured, keep a list of activities that you would like to do on your trip with your itinerary and fill them in as you go along.

    • 5

Make your itinerary in an easy-to-read fashion, with large headings and plenty of space on the page.

    • 6

Add more information to your itinerary than you think you will need, such as hotel addresses, daily weather forecasts and restaurant reviews. Even if you do not follow your plans, having your vacation plotted out for you will allow you to more successfully utilize your time.
