How to Find Hotels in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana is the ideal Caribbean getaway. Located on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is home to nearly 60 all-inclusive resorts. By law, no resort can be taller than a palm tree, so the beach looks as much like a deserted island as any resort town could manage. Cheap accommodations are not what Punta Cana is about; however, you can typically find a bargain with little effort.

Instructions

  1. Know Your Destination

    • 1

Relax at Bavaro beach--the one you've likely seen on a postcard someplace with endless stretches of white sand and coconut palms swaying in the evening breeze. All beaches are considered public beaches in the Dominican Republic.

    • 2

Shop, hike, swim, bike, boat, fish, golf, surf or snorkel. Relaxing can get old after a while, even in Punta Cana.

    • 3

Visit an all-inclusive resort even if you do not stay at one. The resorts themselves are an attraction and the #2 reason to travel to Punta Cana at all, just behind the beaches. A typical package includes rooms, food, drinks, entertainment and activities. The all-inclusive resorts tend to have everything you need within the perimeter of the resort; however, prices on gifts are much less expensive in town.

Transportation in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

    • 4

Fly into Punta Cana International Airport. If you don't have a shuttle arranged through a resort, call a city taxi in advance of your arrival because all the taxis at the airport are exorbitantly priced tourist taxis.

    • 5

Take the gua-gua buses between Punta Cana and surrounding resorts.

Accommodations in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

    • 6

Entertain the possibility of staying in one of the new generation all-inclusive resorts at the developing Playa de Uvero Alto portion of Punta Cana. The spring and the fall are prime seasons to find cheap accommodations in this area and throughout the Dominican Republic.

    • 7

Search for bed and breakfast accommodations, which feature a cheap room and let you pay for everything else. There are not many bed and breakfasts, hostels or hotels in Punta Cana, because all-inclusive resorts run the show. Some regular hotels are in the works, however.

    • 8

Stay at an all-inclusive. There are some perfectly good all-inclusives in the $125 to $150 price range, and once you consider food costs, your stay at just such an all-inclusive is really a bargain.
