ATV Trails & Camping in Florence, Wisconsin

With more than 150 miles of ATV trails and several sites for camping, Florence County, Wisconsin, is a dream destination for an outdoors lover. Use the trails to practice maneuvering, see the beauty of Fisher Lake or to travel to nearby Marinette County, WI or Iron County, MI. In a county with 265 lakes, 12 state natural areas and 80 percent of the land covered by forest, Florence is all about outdoor adventure. Some of the roads are even open to ATV riding, making this corner of northwest Wisconsin completely ATV-friendly.
  1. ATV Trails

    • Florence County is loaded with fun ATV trails.

      The must-see (or traverse) ATV trails in Florence are in the 17-acre ATV park on the south side of Fisher Lake. Free and open to the public, these trails offer riders of every level fun with sand, hills and mud pits. Along the west border of the county is Nicolet State Trail, along which is the Tipler Trailhead, just north of Long Lake. To the east, in the middle of Florence County, the trail connects with several overlooks and campgrounds.

    Government-run Campgrounds

    • Lakes, trails, fishing and volleyball --- Florence County campsites have it all.

      There are two state-run campgrounds in Florence County. One, the West Bass Lake Park Campground, features 15 sites on a small lake with a boat launch, sandy beach and bathhouse. West Bass Lake Park is located in the town of Homestead, in the South Central area of Florence County. Similarly, Lake Emily Park Campground has 18 sites and also allows visitors the opportunity to camp on a quiet lake. Both campgrounds offer electric hook-ups.

      Florence County is also abundant with National Park Campgrounds. There are three located off of Lauterman Recreational Trail: Chipmunk Rapids, a six-site campground that is also a popular place to start canoe trips; Perch Lake, a five-site, tent-camping only park with three varieties of fish filling the lake; and Lauterman Lake, with five walk-in, tent-only camp sites and a well-maintained cross country ski trail in the winter.

      Morgan Lake Campground is also located on National Park grounds. With a group campsite that can hold up to 25 people, 18 family sites and a sandy beach surrounding the 45-acre watering hole, Morgan Lake is an excellent place for a family vacation. Finally, Lost Lake Campground features 150-year old hemlock among the tent and cabin campsites.

      Among the state-owned, private and National Park camping sites, there are also two run by Wisconsin Electric Power Company. These sites are few in number and quite primitive, with toilets as their only listed amenity.

    Private Campgrounds

    • Florence County also has privately run campgrounds, such as Camping in the Clouds. Camping in the Clouds has more than 40 sites on 72 acres that can each be used for an RV. The property also features separate tent camping, showers and activities like miniature golf, an indoor pool, volleyball and horseshoes.

      Keyes Lake Campground is another privately-owned campground, located along Highway 101, and has tent, RV and cabin sites available. This campground offers loads of outdoor fun, from fishing on the lake to playing volleyball or visiting LaSalle Falls.
