How to Fasten a Nylon Cord

Nylon rope, especially the cheaper nylon rope, can be hard to tie off. It's not as flexible as cotton or hemp and is often slippery. Many secure knots are a challenge because of the lack of pliability. The knots you can tie often slip right out under pressure. You can, however, use a modified granny knot to fasten the cord around any pole, hole or cleat.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the rope with one loose end in each hand.

    • 2

      Fold the rope in half.

    • 3

Hold onto the fold in the rope, dropping the two loose ends.

    • 4

Slide the folded bight of rope through your hole or around your anchor.

    • 5

Hold the folded bight in one hand while you gather up the loose ends of your rope in the other.

    • 6

Slide the loose ends of the rope through the folded bight. Pull through until there is no slack remaining in the loop this has formed.
